Meštrović pavillion

April 27- June 19 2022

The Youth Salon is traditionally held by The Croatian Association of Visual Artists (HDLU) every two years, with 2022 calling for its 36th edition. The Youth Salon shows a cross-section of the scene of the upcoming generation and allows young artists to exhibit in a representative and significant gallery space. In just over 50 years of its existence, it has presented more than 3,400 artists and generated new names on the Croatian art scene in each of its editions. In addition to moving the latest artistic trends to the big stage, the Salon has been awarding prizes to the most successful achievements since its inception, adequately valuing the artwork and emphasizing to the general public the new names on the scene whose works should be followed in the future.

The first Salon was organized back in 1968, and was sponsored by reputable companies such as the Yugoslav Bank for Foreign Trade, Pliva, Ina and Generalturist. From its beginnings until today, it has undergone a series of program changes and experiments. For example, in the 2nd salon, the review, ie the text of the preface, was replaced by a survey on the meaning of the Salon and ideas for improvement, in the 5th Salon a kind of anti-concept was presented, and all submitted works, including amateur works, were exhibited. until the introduction of a curatorial concept. For half a century, the Salon has launched, recognized and promoted significant artistic movements and concepts such as Nova slika, the Biafra group and the Group of Six Artists, which also launched the PM Gallery, today an integral part of the HDLU House.

The central event of the 36th Youth Salon will be the exhibition PARASITES, which will be presented in Meštrović Pavilion. The author of the curatorial concept is KUĆĆA collective, whose goal is to create a collaborative platform for artists, curators, theoreticians and other individuals and organisations who work in fields of process-based, experimental and investigative artistic practices. For the 36th Youth Salon they wish to “gather parasites, intruders, pests and nuisances as guests, as intruders and as hosts who, through conscious, artistic practices, penetrate existing structures and explore new systems.” The exhibition will feature artists invited by the curators, as well as those selected by a jury through the open call. As well as the exhibition, KUĆĆA is also curating the accompanying program.

The Croatian Association of Visual Artists (HDLU) is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit, and politically neutral union of professionals. Its membership consists exclusively of visual artists of all generations, working in all forms of expression and disciplines. The association was established in 1868 and has been continuously active since then, though under different names. The basic goals of the Association are to support and encourage contemporary visual expression, to improve and protect the freedom of visual expression, to organize exhibitions, and to participate in the making of laws and rules regulating visual arts production and the social rights of the artists.

36. SALON MLADIH: PARAZITI

Uz izložbu, KUĆĆA organizira i popratni program.
